Sri Venugopala Swamy Temple, Hosa Kannambadi, Mysuru, Karnataka is located 28 KM north of Mysuru.
The original Temple was built by Hoysalas in the 12th century CE, and covered an area of around 50 Acres. It was fully submerged in 1930 CE when the KRS dam – phase 1 was completed.
The Temple used to resurface every now and then when the water levels in the reservoir dropped. It appeared in full in the year 2000, prompting Khoday Foundation to initiate a relocation project of shifting the Temple to a higher location.
The current location is a KM to the north of the original site. The relocation and restoration was completed in the year 2011.
The ornamented stone pillars and ceilings are replete with carvings and sculpturing.
It’s magnificent!
