Jalakandesvarar (Siva) temple is located inside the Vellore fort, Vellore, Tamilnadu.
It was built in 1550 CE by Vijayanagara king Sadasivaraya.
The Jalakandesvarar Temple is a fine example of Vijayanagara Architecture – it’s replete with exquisitely carved Gopuram, Mandapams, pillars, and sculptures. The temple has mammoth wooden (entry) doors and large praakarams around.
The temple also has a stunning Kalyana Mandapa (wedding hall) that’s a gem of a creation; It has high levels of ornamentation consisting of dragons, horses, yalis and people.
The temple stands as a testimony to the art and architectural prowess of Vijayanagara times.
