Jain Temple and Caves of Tirumalai, Tamilnadu, are located 17 km north-east of Polur, and 51 km north of Tiruvannamalai.
This Jain site has more than 2000 years of history. The Jain Temple was built in early 11th century CE by Chola princess Kundavai.
This unique Jain Temple is modelled on Chola Temples with a Raja Gopuram, Mukha mandapa, Ardha mandapa, Antharala and Vimana with Kalasha over Garbhagriha – all sculptured with Jain motifs.
The Temple was renovated and supported by Vijayanagara Kings.
The Caves that served as living spaces in ancient times are replete with wall murals; and most of it is in good shape.
An amazing historic place!
